screen gone; moving to tmux
I've been using "screen" since 1995ish. After reading "Is tmux the GNU Screen killer?" I gave tmux a try. I' a convert.
Amazingly enough, I haven't even set up a config file. I'm using the defaults and so far I'm happy.
The only changes I might make in the config file:
- The default command key should be CTRL-] (that's just a matter of taste)
- Cmd-SPACE should go to the next window
Color me impressed!

I've been wanting to try it out, but I hate changing technologies. I guess I'll have to give it a fair shake, though.
Posted by: bcotton at June 22, 2011 10:50 AM...but *why*? I've used tmux, and so far, I just haven't found a big enough advantage. Also, as an OS X person, Apple patches screen to work with OS X's pasteboard, and tmux is at a disadvantage there (for now).
So, what are you seeing that's better about tmux over screen? (Enough to make the switch.)
Posted by: Edward Marczak at June 22, 2011 11:15 AMEver since I tried tmux 10 months ago, I haven't looked back. For a config file that isn't cryptic, modern development, and being able to search all of your windows (and many more features), it's replaced screen in my toolbox.
